What to wear to tango shows?

June 28, 2023

Tango shows are sexy, classy and traditional. But what do you wear to one of the shows? Dress code can vary a bit from show to show, but when in doubt go business casual!

Feel free to don your nice dresses and suits for the higher end shows like Rojo Tango or a VIP option at one of the traditional shows. Business casual is still a safe bet but slightly more formal attire is perfectly acceptable and in some cases more common. Who doesn’t like a fancy evening out while on vacation? You may as well match the VIP treatment with private transportation, balcony seating or when attending a show in a 5 star hotel.

At Esquina Carlos Gardel, Cafe de los Aneglitos or Viejo Almacen most guests arrive in business casual wear with sport jackets, khakis, nice dresses and blouses. These shows provide a great dinner and show type night out on the town. Some travelers on an adventure tour of Argentina may not have business casual on hand. Just throw on your cleanest outfit, the staff understand that many travelers do not bring along a wide ranging wardrobe!

If you are seeking more casual dress tango show options aim for Complejo Tango or some of the late afternoon, early evening shows like Cafe Tortoni or the Borges Center. Jeans and a button down shirt or slacks coupled with a fashionable graphic T-shirt are common among guests. Some of these shows also offer participation options with group classes before the shows to really help appreciate how talented the dancers are!
